billetproof 2012

I've hardly been to any car shows this summer, but one that I did make time for was Billetproof 2012 at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds. It's nothing like your usual car show: for a start it's strictly limited to pre-1964 vehicles, so no muscle cars...and add to that a total ban on any visible aluminum or other "bling" (chrome is very much frowned upon, and I've seen several cars turned away for being too shinny)....and you've got a car show without any "show cars."  Throw in a bunch of live bands, a pin-up contest (see below!) and a whole bunch of sideshows and you've got one of my favorite events of the year.

If it's worth showing one pic...

Ponies and Snakes 12

Always the HOTTEST Mustang Show in the Bay Area, Ponies and Snakes continued its fine tradition of attracting the region's highest-end Mustangs and Ford-powered Cobra's out to Danville. This year the show was graced by a dazzling array of examples of the new BOSS, including a rare (and very classy) Saleem SMS 302 (#14 of just 30 built) and a 2013 lime green 302. I've always loved anything similar to Ford's Le Mans Green, as well documented on this blog!

Hot August Nights

The cars at Hot August Nights in Reno included a 1970 LS6 the legendary King of the muscle cars and the only original Superbird I've ever seen!

1970 LS6 Chevelle SS454
The Ninja with Paul Le Mat
this is the stance I'm aiming for with my project.
No trip to Reno is complete without a visit to the mecca that is Summit Racing
My Grandfather owned a similar bubble car to this one.
My next project is going to be one of the Chargers
Hard to believe but we found a Superbird...
...shame it was yellow!
